Craftsman 4141Spiral Ratchet Drill Driver Info needed

I have an older model No.4141 Craftsman Ratcheting Sprial Drill Driver that I want to restore. It is in mint condition except it is missing what ever fits inside the chuck and holds the bit. There is a small slot with nothing in it.

I would appreciate any information you might have.

Are you sure? Do the bits have a morse taper? if so that could be the take apart slot, for lack of a better word.

No morse taper. The bit has a notch on the bottom that forces it to align with the slot. When aligned, there is a "v" in the bit that corresponds to the slot in the chuck. Something, either a small half moon key or a small ball bearing must go into that slot.

what does the inisde of the collar look like? any grooves, slots, etc?

Perfectly smooth with a taper. I think I found the answer on another woodworking site. It is a half moon woodruff key.

I just looked at the modern version of this at Sears yesterday. Made in Germany and instead of the old bits, it uses the now popular 1/4" bits and screws down onto them.

I don't have access to mine right now, but, those were probably made by Yankee tools for Sears.

don't know if you can still get parts for those or if they maybe still make them.

did you check the www3.sears.com parts site?
