Stanley Maxlife flashlight has life of its own

I was just repositioning an oscilating fan for loml in our room with the lights out and when I turned it back on I saw a flash. Switched it back off and on again...flash flash. Look to find my tripod flashlight laying on the floor (2yr old son) with the fans power cord laying within 6 inches of it. Any farther away and nothing, closer and the lights light even brighter. Fan is a Holmes, brand new. Would this be a phenomenon of l.e.d. lights or of the unique construction of this particular light? Or should I ditch the fan before someone gets jolted?

    intersting.
With the room lights out it would not take much current to make a LED visible.

The fan cord has an electric field. The LED is a diode, and may rectify this field. It might be a fraction of a milliamp at the change in field might just be enough to make it visible in the dark.

I wouldn't say that there is any risk unless the cord on the fan gets hot when the fan is running, in which case I would change the cord. Otherwise, you have a great new majic trick on your hands to astound the neighbors with at your next party.

If you think the parties are lively in Corona, man you should come to Winchester and party down. (That is if the one gas station is open, better call ahead).
