If the machine is truly an oldie but goodie and I had the $$ I'd buy a replacement. But in the mean time I'd think a 1/4" plywood cover could be fashioned pretty easily. The area that's uncovered is at the general height I'd really like some protection Pat

      Saw

I would go with the best advice I've read and go with new parts! Save the old parts an plan to use them for something else Dad might have done with them. Door stop maybe?

how much "labor" will DHL insurance cover?

Pat, I didn't know the technical term of the lower roller guard was a privates protector !!!

Loring - good point on labor and consulting fees for this great advice is a given !!!

Seriously, do you all think the sides are doable (metal, plastic, wood) and attach it to a plywood faceplate. They would be 1 3/4 depth but need to be curved / patterned and they're awfully thin sidewalls for clearance underneath the table top.

Over $100 for a piece of sheet metal is not in the budget just yet. $100 for piece of mind to my privates - priceless!!!

Update - one of my sister's employees shipped this after I had it boxed up in three packages and he didn't put ANY INSURANCE on it when he was explicitly told to do so!!!

I'm bumming ... what an idiot!!!! It's only money right ????

Does DHL have a standard insurance amount that they don't charge extra for?

I know UPS used to do either $50 or $100 free of charge, DHL may have something similar that will lessen the burden.

YAHOO ... I just called DHL and they'll pony up $100 per box so I'll submit two claims and that covers three out of the six parts needed to get it working THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the great advice .... you made a bad day much better.

I also got an e-mail back from Weber and he has in stock the lower privates protector / roller guard shipped for $85 versus $112 from Service Net. I found a plastic knob @ Rockler for $3 versus $12 and a coarse bolt at lowes for .92 for the blade height adjustment versus $23 for a thumb screw that works just fine. The two missing pieces are the lower roller nut and lower guard so for a grand total of $220 including shipping I have an opportunity to use my Dad's gear and see if he'll smile down from above when I'm making furniture for his granddaughter.

This I'm counting as a personal gloat ... not a bargain but a great opportunity with a lot of sentimental value in use.

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE , BT3 COOKOUT AT MY PLACE IN SEATTLE ????
