    Trimming plastic laminate

What is the best diameter trim bit for trimming plastic laminate on a countertop?

    Thanks,

since it will have large curves or straights, I would go with 1/2".

The 1/2" diameter bit with 3 flutes and a bearing is a pretty safe bet. They are available with different flute lengths. That same style works very well in a 3/8" diameter if you are careful not to bump or bang the bit. The narrower cutting diameter takes out less laminate and cuts cleaner and faster.

Panel pilot bits also work well, they have no bearing and some care should be taken on the edge the pilot runs on. They are usually 1/4" in diameter. For a fairly complete router bit selection check out Amana Tool.

For bearingless bits try greasing the surface the pilot runs on with Crisco. No burning and easy cleanup.
