    Scroll Saw Blades.. ?? ..

    Good morning All...

I have become relatively know-ledgeable of WW machinery over the past 36 years but.... I have just gotten a DW 788 re-co scroll saw that is awaiting mounting. I am familar with a scroll saw but far from know-ledgeable as some who spend a great deal of time with them. There is a large scroll saw club here in Gwinnett Co., Ga. and they could answer this question, but I will save a call as I think it can be answered here without one.

The thought came across me yesterday that I don't have a clue where to look for quaility scroll saw blades as I purchased quite a few when I got my original scroll saw. And what might be described as a "senior moment", I cannot remember where.

So... what do you consider quality blades where do you get them? This should be a "piece of cake" for you dedicated "scroll guys" and probably some not as dedicated at this point as I.

Gotta get ready for work.. Thanks in advance and have a good day All!

    Regards...

Mike's workshop home of flying dutchman blades is always the one that gets recommended for scrollsawing needs. URL below:

This site, http://www.scrollsaws.com/ has a great deal of information on scroll sawing.

My wife is the scroll sawer in our family and she prefers the Flying Dutchman brand of blades. She buys them from http://www.mikesworkshop.com/ His prices are very competitive and the service is great. He'll even send you some free samples.

EDIT: WOW! Three endorsements for Mike's in three minutes. Mike for President.

Nah, age is a state of mind, not the number of B'days. (I hope so anyway!)

              Morning sweensvd...

I just reviewed the www.scrollsaws.com site and saw a large article submitted by Ron Brown in conjunction with the Gwinnnett Scroll-saw Club I metioned in my opening post on tuning a DW 788. Very informative and through as the DW 788 is the weapon of choice with the GSC.

Ron Brown is the local go-to man in the Atlanta area and knows the DW as he is retired from Dewalt as their SS demo man. The Gwinnett SS Club is one of the largest in the country and has many accomplished members that are solely devoted to SS's and do little WW'ing.

Ron only lives a few miles away... but I will not bother him at this point with entry level questions as he is very busy giving demo's locally and with club operations. I knew the local Gwinnnett Club was large, but after some searching I found it was much larger than I first assumed.

At some point.. if I get into the SS heavily, I might join it. But for my intentions at the moment I will wade through entry level on my own as I had to 36 years ago with WW and their were very few sources of information as we have now. If you have questions on anything now.. it can be answered by reliable sources in minutes via inter-net, etc.

Working with wood has come a long way since I crept under it's door back in 1972 and that's a fact. That is not necessarily recognized by today's entry levels as possibly they take it for granted that help is always as close as the nearest computer and not "trail and error" or word of mouth on the rare occasion you ran into another WW.

Just some rambling thoughts from an "old-timer"... sorry!

              Regards...

Sarge, I'm glad to hear that you found that site useful.

I hear ya about the instant availability of information in today's world but that's a good thing. It took us baby-boomers a whole lot longer to gather information and put it into use then it does today. Just imagine how much smarter we all would be now if we had the Internet back in the 60's.

No sense in being too serious, not when you can go through life living it to its fullest like my hero.
