    Heavy Duty Halogen Work Light

    Halogen Work Light

I've never owned one and looking to buy one. Any recommendation on a good brand that can be bought at big box stores because I need it tonight.

    Thanks a million!

I have one similar to the one you showed in your post and I wouldn't consider it heavy duty at all but more of a consumer grade. Around here, HD and Menards both sell units like the one you pictured for around $30. HD also has units that I would consider heavy duty which sell for more than twice the price of the consumer grade ones.

I've used the biggest setup that sears sells and it was the nicest one I've seen from a big box store. it was very similar to your picture but the fixtures were larger and had a dual brightness feature. I don't see it on their website.

        Making movies are we?

I have a similar one to your image and it works fine. Most that goes wrong is I drop it or knock it over and break a bulb.

Those are going to get hot, quick!!!!!!

I borrowed a friends when I replumbed my house (gutted the bathroom and found out one important piece was packaged wrong on Thanksgiving day). Used a few more since. I don't know the brand, but look for ones (more common now), that the lights can be pulled off and used on the floor. Well worth the extra.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Those lights are great. I've used all different types. They are really nice for unheated projects since you can warm up standing by them.

                  Thanks folks!

Went to borg after work and picked up one of the 1200 watt model and the lights can be taken off of the tripod. Worked pretty well because the heat kept me warm even when the windows were open. Got pretty cold here tonight, temp is high 40's. When mounted on the stand, this thing is behemuth!

I've seen the filament break as a result of a moderate bump as well, so treat the lights gently when lit. And have spare bulbs on hand at all times.

Check the handle for extra bulbs. I have the floor standing single version of once of those lights and didn't realize it came with an extra bulb in the handle.

The one I bought last night came with an extra bulb but it was in a white box. I should have bought some more while I was there. How long do these usually last?

It varies how long they last, probably partly based on how much you are moving them around. I've had my lights for about two years with lighter use and probably have gone through a handful of bulbs. HF has them on sale for $0.89 or $0.99 from time to time, so i stock up when i catch a sale.

Since they are halogen bulbs it helps them last longer if you don't get finger oils on them. But then again, they are cheap at HF. I think they are about $5 at HD and Lowes.
