I've used both the Kreg K3 and the PSI Jim mentions. I like the Kreg K3 better, however not enough to pass on this current deal from PSI. Complete kit with free shipping for $75.

I never took the K3 jig out of the base. I always used the little single shot guy for portable needs. Never used K3 dust collection. At $75 I like the PSI for an intro kit.

I got the K2000 about 6 weeks ago on Amazon for $80, no shipping cost. While the Penn State looks good, the K2000 has basically the same thing plus material support wings on the side of the jig (seperate pieces) and a depth gauge built in to set the bit stop for different material thickness. The material support wings are great when putting pocket holes in wider boards or panels, no tipping allowed.

Not knocking the Penn State, just giving alternatives.

the last review i saw (I think last year in Wood) of PHJs
had several categories from just the little clamp-on single jig to the full-up kit with cam-lever clamp and spacers.
In every category, across every column, the Kreg earned "A"s compared to a mix A, B, and C for the other brands.

I remember thinking, "here's a company that really dominates!".
The only real compaints I've had so far regard storing things in the blow-molded (K2000) case.

K2000 at $80 is good. Can't go wrong there.

I saw that as well and came away with the same conclusion.

The case issue for the K2000 is kind of silly as most folks are going to permanently mount the jig and supports on board.

I agree. I mounted my jig on 3/4" ply and don't see ever removing it. The case, like most tool cases has some utility but isn't great. I keep the drill bit, screw bit and clamp in the case but its more of a PITA to keep going into the case all the time for the parts as I use the jig nearly every day. I have set up a pocket hole table that also doubles as a biscuit cutting table as well. I just exhange the two jigs when needed. Nothing fancy but its convenient and works well.
