delta air cleaner 50-875 good deal or not?

some one local is selling a delta air cleaner 50-875 for $150 used. it looks good. he doesnt know how old it is. is this a good buy. i dont have a dc yet either. should i wait to get a dc first and then this? because right now, when i work in the garage, the garage door is open. so i dont know who effective it would be. what is your suggestion.

    thanks in advace. regards,

    That's a nice air cleaner - three speed + remote 1000 CFM.

you really need a DC + AC due to fine dust escaping from sanding and other operations. There is a 2nd stage pleated filter behind the furnace filter, the pleated filter is expensive, like ~$40-50 so check and make sure it isn't loaded up with dust that got by an improperly installed furnace filter.

The furnace filter does most collection and is disposable (should be readily available in stores), the pleated filter is for the very fines that get by the furnace filter. Normally only with very heavy use should the pleated filter need replacement.

The amazon price is around $300, so depending upon condition I'd try to talk him down a little, esp. if a new pleated filter is req'd. and make sure he has the remote. It's still a current model, it came out about 6 or 7 years ago.
