HF industrial Jointer $120 on CL

This is not an ad for the jointer.
Seems someone needs to unload an HF industrial 6 inch rabbiting jointer.
I need opinions from anyone owning one or anyone that has used one. The person selling wants $120 I'm sure I can probably talk that down another 10 or 20. The thing Is I have never been a big fan of the fence design that is used on this jointer. Though that fence design is ages old it just strikes me as a type that can get out of kilter easily.

    HF industrial jointer...........

If that is the 30289 model number, it is a good jointer, especially for that price. I have the 6" model and it does everything I need and no complaints
so far. Don't worry about the fence design...it locks down good and tight
and will stay there. Some people have posted concerns about what they think would cause a deflection in the fence, looks to me if they are worried
about that, by pushing stock that hard against a fence, they would probably
be exerting enough force on the machine to cause it to tip over backwards
anyway! If you decide to buy this jointer...pick up one of the HF welding magnets (shaped like an arrowhead) and use it to square the fence 90 deg.
to the jointer bed, lock it down and you are ready to start using the machine.
It is a good machine and is grossly under rated on most ww sites, because
most people want a bigger and heavier machine to start with.
    My opinion and .02 worth........eezlock

I have it and it seems to work fine. The fence does flex if you apply pressure to it, but it doens't change the angle any. Mine was used and I had a switch problem, but I fixed it and it works great now. I don't use mine all that much as I buy all my stock with a straight edge. But when I need it, it does a great job, especially for the price!

I picked up a 31849, used for $100. Thing was the guy never used it. Just put it together and it sat in his garage for 2 years. That said, I have yet to joint a board properly on it. Don't know if its me or the jointer. Table is flat, fence at 90 but edges always come out concave. It flattens a board better but not perfect either.

At $120 it would be a decent deal, but they usually go closer to $100.

Adjusting the knives is for sure the key. I also got my jointer used and it did the same thing and I could not figure out why. Then I sharpened the knives and re-aligned them and now it joints very well. Most HF items work well when the are adjusted properly. It just seems to take longer with HF machines to get them tweaked just right.

Thanks for the advice on adjusting the knives. Sorry to have side tracked the thread. I was very frustated with the machine.
