Dust collector attachment for Delta 22-580

I am looking for a dust collector attachment for my 13" Delta planer. The best price that I found for an OEM part is $24.99 on Amazon. However, it irks me to pay $25 for a little piece of plastic. Are there any secondary or aftermarket sources for dust collector attachments (specifically for the Delta 22-580)? [?] (Just checking with the members before I order from Amazon.)

I think amazon is your best bet...and if it makes you feel any better there's a metal lip on the plastic where it bolts to the planer []

I hear that. I paid $22.49 for mine from amazon.com a couple weeks ago, before the price went up. Just be glad you don't own a DeWalt ... they get about $35 for their "little piece of plastic."

I don't know whether there are any alternatives for the 22-580. I can, however, tell you these three things:

      1. The way the "official" Delta accessory attaches to the planer would make it difficult to jury-rig anything else.

      2. The plastic is too soft, and the outlet is just slightly too large, so that the hose from my DC keeps slipping off, even when I secure it with a length of duct tape. Irritating.

      3. Problems and price aside, the thing does work. I would say it captures better than 99% of the debris from my planer -- and if you've used yours very much, you know that that's a lot.

It does work well, but it is too expensive for what you get, and it could easily have been designed to install and remove more quickly. One of the pins should be spring loaded so you could push that in to slip the attachment in or out, and only loosen and tighten the knobs holding it down, rather than completely removing the knobs and the metal shield that holds it down. But it's such a special purpose item, and it doesn't cost so much more than is reasonable, so I don't think there's an alternative to buy. Making your own is possible, but probably not fun enough to be worth it.

I don't understand why they don't include those things with the planers.

so that they can mark the planer as $25 lower and still get their money!

oh wait, that was rhetorical wasn't it [)]

I paid 19.99 + tax for mine locally at Ballew Saw. You might try your local tool supply store if you have one. 19.99 is still too much for this thing, but I got tired of shoveling the chips up.

There's a saying about beer: "Drink one, p*ss three." Same deal with planers. I am at a loss to explain how you can run a board through a planer, get all those chips, and still have anything left of your workpiece.
