Well, the L/Ns are basically improved repros of the Stanley Bedrock. The original bedrocks were an improved Bailey to intended to compete with the infills, which were the high-end hand planes.

I also noticed several typos on their website. Some of them are a bit embarrassing.

If they throw in free shipping, we can move this discussion to the Bargain Alerts forum

Noticed the same thing. They're getting 7 grand a plane you'd think they could spare a few bucks to have someone proof read.

They also like to use his name alot. Karl Holtey this and Karl Holtey that. But seriously, who is Karl Holtey.

            He looks like this . . . .

Does it make sense now? $7000? Get it?

From his self promoting website . . ..

'Karl Holtey practices a trade centuries old and is widely regarded as the leading exponent of classic British pattern planes, in the footsteps of makers like Spiers, Mathieson and Thomas Norris. ..... Karl is a focussed and passionate man, who over the years has built up a considerable reputation as a plane-maker; he's also one of the world's authorities on the wood infill British pattern plane.'

Interestingly, he posts a link for Lie Nielsen plans on his linky page. Seems "thebestthings.com" is the one who considers LN to be so inferior.
