    nice $7000 hand plane

Since I found that last $20,000 in Loose change in the couch, I figured I'd get a set of these. http://www.thebestthings.com/newtools/karl_holtey.htm
I need to clean up the marks left by my HF bandsaw.

I'm kidding, of course, but who buys these?

Selling a couple a month, he/she is doing great in my book. Don't know nothing about them, but I would be it's more name / marketing then anything else. I'll bet the people who buy them display them, not use them.

Agreed, while they are fully functional planes, these are probably bought for display only.

I would guess that if you could afford to buy these for display purposes, you would also probably pay to have things (woodworking projects) made for you, and not be doing them yourself.

One of those costs more than the price of my whole shop. WOW!!!!!

I guess you could display it next to your $500 screw driver and $2000 hammer.

I don't know about you guys, but I think I'm in the wrong business.

This is where the government would shop if they needed to buy a hand plane...

I like the way they casually diss L-N:

"The result of this is of course that most people settle for much less, and buy a mass produced product like a Lie-Nielsen plane. "

Dang, those mass produced L-N planes must be crap.

I was thinking it might be made of gold or silver.

I might go for the thumb plane at $5200 but I'm not sure I can justify the $7400 for the smoothing plane.

                    I was looking

                    for the $500,000.00 table saw.

I was thinking of selling my house, cars, wife, kids, clothes, etc. and buying one. That way I only have to put $400.000.00 on my credit card.

I was about to post the same quote. I could "settle" for a bench full of L-N planes!

I hope the attention to detail shown in proof-reading is no indication of the attention paid to crafting the planes.

While mine took an inordinate amount of time to setup, which was unexpected given the amount paid, I did find it to produce truly magnificent wood shavings. I don't think it would be much of a stretch to say the shavings produced by this plane are many times better than those of my LN or Veritas planes. Oh, if only you could see the uniform width, the elegance of the curves produced, and how light and fluffy they are compared to your pedestrian shavings. If you are a connoiseur of shavings, and will settle for nothing less than the best, this is your plane.

I guess I couldn't use my Grizzly sharpening stone on them? Think they might clash with my Orange Ridged Planer or Green Grizzly Jointer, or my Green HF Band saw and Drill Press. They are beautiful but who would use them?
