Loosing my mind - pin nailer reviews

I know that I read a review of 23 gauge pin nailers in a magazine within the last few months, and for the life of me I cannot find either the issue in question nor on any of the web sites (most of which, to be blunt, are useless). Woodnet points to Fine Homebuilding, but I don't think that was it, but I might be wrong (don't subscribe to it, and I'm pretty sure I read it the review at home).
    Any clues?

There's a review of 8, 23-gauge pin nailers starting on page 76 of the April 2007 issue of 'Woodworker's Journal". That issue has a picture of Norm Abramson the cover.

Thanks! I hit their website up and it sounds like that is it, but dammit, I don't subscribe to WWJ, and I don't think I was at B&N or elsewhere idle enough to flip through it. I really must be loosing my mind!!

I like my Bostitch. Will shoot 1 3/16 pins (but I haven't, they are a bit hard to find). The Porter Cable will only go to 1 inch. The other brands are significantly more expensive. The Bostitch will shoot 1 inch through aluminum and completely into hardwood. I'm pretty sure it will be OK with the 1 3/16.

Harbor Freight has a $25 23-ga headless pin nailer now

          http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93656

replaced their $60 one. Might be worth a shot , their $15-20 brad nailers have always proven very functionally adequate according to user experience. They'll take it back if you don't like it (they'll even pay return shipping, IIRC)

I have the $60 one, no complaints. All the other name brands run close to $100 or more, I think.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

Your "last few months" qualifier may rule this one out, but I went web-crawling after dimly remembering a review in WOOD Magazine from a while back. Turns out it was the September 2005 issue. Could that have been it?

I have the Bostitch also. Originally it didn't completely sink the pins below the surface (many others had the same problem). Their tech. service people said it was designed that way. I found out some owners just filed a little off the tip of the gun to correct the problem so I followed suit. This gun is very handy. I like using it to hold templates down rather than double sided tape.

I bought that Harbor Freight pin nailer yesterday for $25 - 15% off. I test fired it last night at 90 PSI using 1 inch pins, and it successfully pinned two pieces of 3/4 oak flooring together while sinking the pin below the surface. I'm impressed. Now if I only had time to use it...

I also have the Harbor Freight pin nailer and have had no problems with it. It's adjustable for several sizes of pins, I think from 1/2" up to 1".

I have the HF pin nailer. Used it once with no problem. For the money, I'm sold. Have to remember the idea of using it in place of double-sided tape.

I've been really happy with my Porter Cable. Although, if I knew there was an option for slightly longer than 1", I would have went that route. There have been a couple times I wished I had just a little more reach.

I also have the new HF pin nailer. For the money, it's great. It works fine for my occasional needs. I have had no problems with jamming so far. I can't see paying $100-$200 dollars for a pin nailer. I can buy 5 to 10 of the HF nailers for the price of one name brand pinner.

I paid $12.49 + shipping for it online when it was on sale recently.

i have the HF pinner and enjoy it also. nicest thing i thought was that it came with a complete assortment of different lenth pins. seems that is a very costly part of buying a new fastening device, purchasing all the different size fasteners!!
i paid like 20$ after using a coupon, had it for about 8 months, no problems at all.
