    Panel Raiser Router Bit Broken

Just tried out my new Holbren Panel Raiser Bit, http://www.holbren.com/product.php?p...=29&bestseller, and managed to break the carbide. Was pushing thru a scrape piece of red oak, no more then a 3/16" pass with the router RPM at aprox. 10,000. About half way thru the cut, I heard a big snap. Stopped the router and notice the carbide embedded into the wood.

I cannot figure out if I did something wrong or I recieved a bad bit?

Call the man and tell him what happened. If you didn't hit anything it's just the odd defective piece.

PM me your name and I'll send you a new set. That's the first I've heard of that one. Maybe it was banged somewhere along the way at the factory and had a crack that wasn't visible until you put pressure on it.

          Thanks Brian,

I sent a PM. Also, I do believe it was a shipping issues as the raiser bit was out of the socket and probably got knocked around during shipping.

Glad that nothing more severe happened. Could have had some serious injury if it broke off and started flying around. Glad your ok.

I'll probably get beaten up for this but there *is* another side to the customer service process. I think most people are honest, but there are some who are not. Costco had a problem recently with its liberal return policy on HDTVs because customers were taking unfair advantage. Someone who buys a laptop, drops it, and then files a warranty claim is committing fraud. When companies try to protect themselves from these kinds of claims, customer service usually suffers.

The bigger an outfit is, the more likely people are to see what they can get away with. Fraudulent claims come out of the retailer's margin, which is usually pretty thin to begin with. They respond by tightening restrictions on returns and warranty claims, and by increasing prices. Those of us who are honest end up paying in the end. Unfortunately, retailers have no way of knowing whether I'm honest or a thief just because they have my name.

Brian does provide exceptional service and I'm going to remember that next time I need something he carries.

Recieved new set today. Did not even have to miss a day of weekend work on the project. I will post some pictures of the cabinet soon.

                    Thanks Brian.
