    Question for 22124 owners

I just recently got the Craftsman 22124 TS and have some vibration that I think is actually normal, but figured I'd check with others. The saw runs smooth, and cuts great, but when I power it down, I get a little vibration as the motor slows down. My shop is in the second floor of my garage and the floor is supported by trusses. I think thats why I notice this, since I'm not on concrete. Opinions?

    thanks,
    Todd

I have the same saw. It is as smooth as silk on startup and while running/sawing. When I power it down, there is a slight "clunking noise" as the blade spins down to rest. I have a close friend with the same saw and the same shutdown noise. I just assumed it was the motor/belt winding down. Definitely has not been an issue with smoothness while running though. (Mine did pass the "nickel test" when I first set up the saw.

its probably a phenomena known as resonance.
Every mechanical thing has a frequency thta it resonates at. When a little bit of energy at that frequency hits it, it exaggerates the amplitude greatly. Much as humming the right note can make a glass vibrate.
When the saw spins down it is changing frequency, eventually it hits the resonance of the saw and it vibrates some more.
That's normal as no blade/motor is balanced perfectly and always vibrates just a little. the resosnance amplifies that.
As long as the saw does not resonate at the operating RPM, you're ok

I have the same saw. As has already been stated I don't think you have anything to worry about. The first time I powered it down I was worried. I turned it on and off several more times and thought there must be a problem. Went inside to surf the net for an answer and got some reassurance this was normal. Oddly enough the next time I used the saw it wasn't as bad and has gradually got better to a certain point. Enjoy the saw, you will love it

Mine does pretty much what the others have stated. Runs smooth, shimmies a little upon slow down.

Great! Thanks a lot. It "seemed normal" to me but thought I'd double check. Now I can sleep at night. Funny thing, I used it today briefly, and it doesn't seem as bad as thought after all. Maybe it is "breaking in".

            thanks all,
            Todd

              Todd,
My 22124 exhibits exactly the same behavior.
