But would you buy it again...

just to gloat. I got the BT3100-1 last year at HD after the discontinuation.
First Ryobi was offering a $50 rebate, and then HD put them on sale for $199. I had a 10% coupon and signed up for the HD card for another 10%.
Ended up paying only $110 new.

It being my first major tool purchase, I was pretty naive and would have otherwise spent the $100 on the BT15 instead... which imho would have been $ down the drain.

I quickly learned that its better to wait for a great deal, or wait until you can afford a quality tool when you want precision.

If it were today, I may have dished out the $550 for a Ridgid TS3650, as the Sears updated BT version from goes for about $450 anyway.
But I doubt if any other saw will have such a following as the BT3.

But its serves my purposes, no need for anything else...

Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that! -Rocky Balboa-

I've had a BT3100 for 3 years, and plan to make my basement a "walkout" style so I can upgrade. BUT ... I can see myself keeping the BT3100 for a second saw (famous last words ...).

                    I started out with a bt3100.

That was a great saw, and I still recommend the Sears clone to anyone who will hear me. I ended up parting mine out for almost a 100% profit.

I dare anyone to show me another saw you could even get close with.

That money allowed me to move up to the Craftsman 22124. It fits my needs better because I like to throw sheet goods around the shop for most of my projects. I also use like to toss down a piece of 1/2" MDF and use my saw as an extra bench or assembly table.

I'll tell you what I miss though. That darned riving knife. I've had a couple of kick-backs. I'm smart enough to stay clear of the danger zone, but I got to learn some sheet rock repairs. The problem was simple; the splitter was to far away from the blade.

I've ordered the Shark Guard, but it will be a month before it gets here.

I've heard that more saws will be coming with true riving knives. It is about time.

As for me, I'm set. I won't upgrade until I get a dedicated shop built. Then it will be a Saw Stop, PM2000, or something new with a true riving knife.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
