    Beginning Reseach of Bandsaws

I am going to make a big step up from my Hitachi (already sold, sorry!).

The Grizzly G0514X seems like a killer for the price. Thoughts?

If you're going to spend that much you should take a look at the
      Lagunas, Mini-Max, Aggazanis and Bridgewoods.

Bridgewood was my first choice but all the PBSs are out of stock. The next shipment will experience substantial price increases.

Mini-Max, Agg and Lagunas are in a whole different price band. 18" Laguna is on sale for $2,545 or double the Grizzly. Agazzani 18" is $2,295. I know the 17" Griz will do 99% of what I want, but it's the old story of "it's only a couple hundred more" for much more weight, HP, etc.

Jet has an 18", JWBS-18X for around $1,300 plus shipping but it's 1 3/4 HP. Seems like the Grizzly just beats everything unless you want to lay another cool $1k on the price. The Rikon 18" was recently on sale for $999 at WC but they still get shipping even if you pick it up in their store. Oh ya, I have to pay tax on Grizzly BS since I am in PA.

          Grizzly

I have been using the grizzly Z series machines for years. I am in Johnstown Pa have made many trips to Muncy The Grizzly line is next to none, price also kicks butt ,their service and parts avalibilty are great. Make that move you wont regret it. PS they will make parts for other machines If they can

reddog552, j-town, I was born there, grew up in Ebensburg, live in Pittsburgh now. The griz Z line is impressive, for the price it's getting hard to beat some of the grizzly deals.

Lived all over town (and out), was there for the 1977 flood and graduated from Conemaugh Valley. I still consider it home and hope to one day move back, probably for retirement.

Jeff, I don't think you can go wrong with a grizz. Just get a helluva good deal on it and if you don't like it you can always unload it (I think you've been down that road before )
If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

Take a look at the Shop Fox too. It's the same machine but with 2HP and didn't have the bearing guides last time I had one. I paid $850 for mine and it was a nice machine.

Minimax is having a spring sale on the S45N - If I remember right, it's about the price shown on the web site, but with free shipping, blades, and the mobility kit is built in. Laguna is also doing their spring thing - don't remember prices though. The S45N is on my short list, as is the Grizz you are looking at. If money weren't an issue, I think I'd buy the MiniMax MM20 tomorrow. Sadly, I don't live in NJ or GA - I didn't win the lottery yesterday
