    Saw Blade Sharpening

I am beginning to collect quite a collection of blades in need of sharpening

Since some are over $75 each it is not reasonable to simply toss them and buy new although since the pile is gaining in size I have done the latter for some time now just not tossing the older ones

I need to get them boxed up and sent in for refinishing. Anyone got any suggestions where?

I asked the better 3/4's (you know the Mrs.) scissor/clipper guy (she has dog shears in excess of $600 EACH pair) he doesn't do ANY blades and was NO help in suggesting who does.

Is there a place that one can send them to that will clean them up and put some good edges back on the carbides?

I was also told today that Freud blades can ONLY be sharpened by Freud at their facility is this true? Man THAT is a racket if true

I DO have several Freud blades and to **** with the comment that they will not need sharpening for 10 years. Lay one laminate floor and I guarantee you will need to get them sharpened.

Anyway what are all you guys doing with your blades besides tossing them?

I sent some blades to Forrest and haven't had a chance to try them since. I'm sure they did a great job. But, they aren't inexpensive.

When reading threads on sharpening on several other boards, the name Scott Whiting (in AZ) keeps coming up. His E-Mail is apparently scottsharpaz (at) qwest.net. His work seems very well respected, and he is priced very competitively.

You may want to look into his services a little.

Let us know where you send 'em and how it turns out.

Forest has a great reputation and sharpens blades other than their own.

I have a 12" Makita CMS blade that is in need. Thanks to the Amazon deal on Hitachi blades, I'll have a new one soon, but I'm sure not going to trash a $75 blade.

Ditto on what I've heard about Forrest's sharpening service.

I will second "ridgecarbidetool.com". They charge $14 for a 41 to 60 tooth blade. A little less with fewer teeth and a little more with more. They also sharpen router bits. Last blade I sent them was a Freud 50 tooth and I was very satisfied. Got it back in only about a week and it was sharp.

I've used Forrest, but only for Forrest blades. I have had some router bits sharpened a while back by a local guy that I located through a local woodworking store. He turned them around in a day and was relatively inexpensive. It may be worthwhile going to your local Woodcraft or other similar establishment and asking.

I found a guy about 20 minutes from where I live who sharpened some blades for me a while back. Relatively inexpensive and turnaround was a few days.

                  Anyone else use Ridge Carbide?

They look real good not too expensive and seem to have a "system" of handling the sharpening
