Miter gauge

Looking for a miter gauge for a used TS I got that didn't have one. Price range is somewhere close to $100. any suggestions?

Alot of people like the Incra 1000SE....it's similar to the V27 with it's own fence. I haven't used one personally though. Goes on sale near $100.

The Woodhaven basic is ~$60. It only does 45/90d but is incredibly well built, accurate, and simple. Needs a fence too.

I was looking at the 1000se. A little more than my budget ($150) but I wouldn't mind too much if it came with a good fence. How much more would a fence cost if I got the V27? Is the fence on the 1000se worth the extra $90 or would I be better off buying a different one?

The one advantage that it has over the Incra is its ability to swing 180 degrees for a much wider angle variance, versus 120 (I think) for the Incra.

A fence could cost as little as a piece of scrap wood. I added a Hartville fence to mine for ~ $30.

I see you have the Craftsman 22124. It looks like you moved your fence rail to the right a little. Is that right? I was thinking of doing something like that to increase from 30" rip capacity without buying a new rail. Any details would be appreciated.

I have the V27, I like it, but if I were to buy again, I'd go for the new version of the 1000se. It wasn't out when I bought mine. They now have it with a nicer fence and stop.

Incra V27 or 1000SE. The V27 works fine with a shop made fence. You can use a piece of scrap and a spring clamp as a stop block.

Hey Ken, Don't ask questions like that. I don't really have an answer other than it just looks cool!

Seriously, We generally think of a long taper jig to run along the rip fence for making tapers on anything longer than 18 inches, but the 180° miter guage with a fence and stop at the back will make great tapers on shorter narrow pieces. I had to cut a spacer to get the the width correct but did fine for some short pieces. I made several (12 inch) taper pieces about 4 years ago on the BT.

Beyond that, I don't have an Incra miter guage but have handled them. They sure look cool but for me, they just don't have the "feel" of durability like the Woodhaven miter has.

That's what made up my mind too when I bought my Woodhaven. Great gauge!
