Grizzly G1182Z Jointer

Earlier today I posted about some other Jointers. This was on my local Craigslist this morning and I called the guy and he said some was coming out tonight, so I told him if it fall through let me know and I will come out and look at it. Well it fell through. Any body have any opinions on it. The picture looks good and the price is good. It is an older model with levers instead of wheels but it does have a mobile base and no shipping or sales tax. I weighs in at 225lbs.

I have a Delta with similar levers, they work OK.
Looks nice and clean, if it works as well as it looks, good catch.

Thanks, I am going to take a piece of rough wood, a square, and a 48" straight edge and act like I know what I am doing when I check it out. I do think he is asking to much for the Powermatic Saw as it it used (only once) That shaper/ molder looked good also but not in my budget. If I get the Jointer my BT3 will still be the most expensive tool I have. I have been lucky thank to BT3 Central and have been able to buy most of my tools on sale or off craigslist or Ebay. I have a whole pile of wood from Lumber Liquidators to process and maybe make something instead of having to use lumber from the Big Box Stores.

I have a LL pack and you do need a jointer if you have one.

Fundamentally there's not a whole lot that can go wrong with a jointer if the design was sound to begin with. Should be able to tune up anything if the motor, bearings are good and the castings aren't somehow broken or rusted into one beig piece.
That should be a nice one - Griz with closed stand and from the looks of it in good shape.
I envy you if you get that one for $200.

Nice find. I thought Lumber Liquidators only sold wood flooring?

They used to sell a woodworkers pack for $50. It was made up of Pallet parts and other scraps of wood form shipping containers and a few good pieces of wood from flooring. It all depended on what they sent. Don't think they do it any more, you could check.

The guy is asking $200 for that jointer and the first deal fell through? Either that first buyer is crazy or didn't know what a good deal that was. Look it over carefully and if it passes muster, pay him on the spot. Good find.

That's a nice jointer. It was made in Taiwan in the same factory that the Bridgewood, Jet, GI, and Sunhill came from. The 1182HW (w/handwheels)took top honors in Wood Mag's 6" jointer review in 2001 or 2002.

$200 seems like a good deal IMHO.

The same joiner model I found last year at a local auction. Seems no one wanted to bid on it and I got it for a song!! I got the blades sharpened and it works great...

This is now a medium Gloat

Went over to look at the Jointer. A young man, with a wife a new baby and a large house, has now time for woodworking. The Powermatic Saw is perfect, the Shaper has never been used. The Jointer is almost perfect. A little dusty with some very light rust on the bed. Every thing is flat and square, we ran some of my LL cherry through it and came out flat and square. The machine is very quiet and no vibration that I could see or feel. It has the manual, knife setting tool and push blocks and a Shopfox mobile base. It is now sitting in the back of my Pickup waiting for BIL to come over and help me unload it. I was going to offer less but decided not quibble as it is perfect and not a scratch on it. Besides he has set it up and adjusted it. The first guy did not show up last night, fool. I am one happy guy right now. I will get it in the garage and clean it up wax the beds and fence and start making mound of saw dust.

Congrats!!! It always feels good to get a great deal and you got a great deal!!! I'm curious why only the jointer was priced so low.

I don't know. The Saw was only used once and cost about $2200 the shaper has never been used and probably cost $1000, He sounded like he was willing to deal on either one, but I could not afford them. Now if I could win one of the Powermatic Shop give aways from Rockler then I would be in Heaven. This site has really help research and purchase tools. The only big tool I paid retail for was the BT3 but that was before I knew any thing about woodworking. The routers, bandsaw, drill press, Planner and Jointer I have managed to get on sale or off of Craigslist or Ebay thanks to the people of BT3 Central. Now I have all the big power tools I think I need but I know there will be more as I go along I am steering my BIL over to this young man as he would love to have the Saw. Thanks again BT3 Central for all you wisdom and help.

Hey I'm trying to win that prize LOL But it would be cool if someone on the site won it though. I'm exactly like you in how I bought my tools. I actually don't have a single new item. Only thing I bought new was a small GMC miter saw and I sold it when I got a bigger one. All my items were from CL and Garage sales. I find there's too much competition on Ebay and plus you have to pay for shipping. Do you ever check out the Garage sales section of CL? I got some amazing deals from there including a Dewalt sliding miter saw and dewalt planer. Again congrats on the purchase.

I use Ebay for a few things. nothing big execpt my PC 690 kit ( the one with 2 bases) and my belt sander. I like Ebay because is satisfies my competitive instincts. Just ran some Brazilian Cherry with a slight twist through the Jointer. I now have a flat and square piece of wood to run through the planner. Couldn't believe how quiet it was, I think it is quietest machine I have other than the drill press. But I also found out what my next piece of equipment will be, a 4" dust collector, that thing put out the chips. I am real happy with it.
