Does anybody know anything about this craftsman band saw?

from the pic it looks like a craftsman professional, but it's 12" while it seems current models start at 14". The price seems right and I'll go check it out tomorrow evening, but I was just wondering if anybody could identify the model # and/or if there's anything I should be aware of

This will be my first band saw, so any tip in terms of what to look for is much appreciated, I thought of bringing a piece of 2x4 just to make sure it works, but besides that I'm not really sure...

    thanks!

That's an older model. Instead of the table tilting, the table is fixed and the whole motor/wheel housings, blade assy tilts to make bevel cuts. Kind of a different beast.

Didn't exactly catch on as you might note. Not sure of what the problems were.

Not a classic in the sense that all the texts you read on how to tune and all have to be reinterpreted in terms of the unorthodox mechanism of this guy. It would not be on my list of desirables unless you like to collect odd old woodworking machines.

This also looks like from about the time when Craftsman went gadget-crazy. They had a table saw with a digital readout of depth of cut and a bandsaw with a readout of bevel angle. Might have that feature but still...
    not real useful.

My opinion? Pass on thhis one.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

thanks for the tip, I'll stop by the guy's house anyways (given that I've told him I would, I don't like going back on my word) but I'll definitely keep your advice in mind. It definitely was tempting for $100 though
