    Bandsaw tire keeps coming off! Please help.

    this issue is killing me. i just used my bandsaw a week or two ago without any issues. i noticed a grinding sound, when i took the cover off i saw that the top tire had slid to the side. well, i needed to put my resaw blade on anyway. so i cleaned the tire off and made sure it was still in good condition, looks good to me. its only about 1 1/2 years old. i put the new blade on and it happened again and again and again. any input would be apprecated. Thanks!

    well, i made a mistake and posted first then searched. learned some stuff, but i am confused. since the tire looks ok would it be a good idea to use some adhesive on it? btw its a harbor freight 14" bandsaw.

      I understand that 3M Fastack trim adhesive works well for that. Same stuff we use to glue racing tires onto bicycle rims. You can get it at most any auto parts store.

        I had the exact same problem with an almost new Ridgid BS14. Tires looked great but they kept coming off. Went to Rockler and got a new pair of orange urethane tires. Works great now.

          The sugested adhesive is called Automotive Weatherstrip adhesive. I had to do this on my Inca and it worked like a charm.

            i did it and it worked. the only problem is that on my third cut the bottom tire came off. i guess because its out in the cold garage sitting. i just put some of the adhesive on the bottom wheel. hope it all works. thanks for all the advice. -shawn

              well, it worked for a little bit then it came off again and i think i know whats wrong. i think its going too fast. i have a HF 4 speed that I converted into a single speed. I never bought a regular pulley for the motor so it still has one of those 4 speed pulleys on it. I recently borrowed the belt off of my bandsaw for another project and when I put it back on I must have put it on the wrong pulley. i have noticed lately that it seems to be going a lot faster, but then again i havent used my bandsaw in a while so i thought i may have been exagerating. so I think the speed is the issue. does anyone know what the optimal speed would be for a 1HP bandsaw?

                I was just fussing with my HF bandsaw last night and had the owner's manual out. There is an RPM chart which shows their single speed bandsaw at 3000 rpm and the 4 speed at (I think)2650 rpm. Not sure it that's ideal speed but at least it's factory spec.

                  ummm, that would be feet per minute FPM, not RPM, probably.

                    ill have to put on the thinking cap and measure both of the pulleys to see what kind of FPM i can get. this is going to burn my biscuit. i really should have suspected something was up when the blade was moving at warp speed before. i was resawing like a madman. too bad the bandsaw couldnt handle it.

                      FPM = RPM(motor) x (Wheel dia/12) x 3.14 x Pulley Dia(wheel)/Pulley Dia(motor)

                      where all diameters are in inches.
                      Motor RPM will probably be 3450 or 3500 and wheel dia = 14"
