    Used planer - good deal?

Someone wants to sell me a Dewalt 735 planer for $200. I haven't seen it yet but the pic looks good and he says he only used it once. Assuming it works well, is that a good price. I'm trying to talk him down to $150 but he seems hesitant. And it comes with some spare blades.

Well if that was up here in Canada for $200 USD I'd be jumping at the deal ... but tools seem to be cheaper there in the USA so I'd compare it to what you could buy it for new at ... or a comparible planner.

For example, here's the planner on Amazon at $549 USD ...

Managed to talk him down to $150. I swear if it wasn't for garage sales and CL I wouldn't be able to buy any tools.

did it have the infeed and outfeed tables and dust hood?
Even without it them is an awsome deal though.

No tables. When you say hood do you mean the flat dust deflector that hooks on the back where the chips shoot out? If so, yes it does.

Nice score. You can buy tables and a dust hood as well as a HF dust collector and still have gotten a pretty good deal. That is abot a $450 machine new.

Not trying to be a party pooper.

I thought about getting one of these when I was in the market. After talking to the tool managers at both HD and Lowes they confirmed what I read on Amazon at that time.

The earlier releases on these planers had a lot of feed problems and the knives wore out quickly. From what I was told and read Dewalt dragged their feet getting the warranty work and replacement parts sent on these too.

Some of the members on here have them and haven't had any problems.

Kind of makes me wonder why someone would sell it so cheap, let us know how it goes.

Well I finally got to test it out. And it works great. Very smooth surface even when I lowered the number of cuts to the minimum. I did have to clean it up a bit since the guy had it the garge for a long time. I used my shopvac to clean much of it then blew out the smaller spots with my compressor. Only gripe about it is the weight. I barely have any room in my garage to store my tools so I have to take it out to the carport to do any work. And at close to 100lbs plus the stand I put it on, moving it back and forth gets old pretty quickly. Any suggestions on a roller system for it?

Also, does the chain need to be oiled? I was hesitant on doing so because it might attract all the wood chips. And boy does it spit out alot of wood. Thanks for the advice guys, I was leaning on getting it anyway but ur posts put me over the edge and I'm very glad I got it.

Btw, he sold it pretty cheap because it was a garage sale and he was selling most of his power tools. I also picked up a Senco duraspin drywall gun for a really good price.
