    Hf 2hp Dc

I have a question to those of you who have the HF 2HP DC and that is how loud is it? Is it louder or quieter than other DCs or how does it compare to a shopvac?

    Thanks for your assistance.

It is the only DC I have had so I can not compare it to others. It is louder than a shop vac but since it is in the far corner of my shop I seldom notice it since I remote start it only when I am using a machine and the noise from any of the machines (table saw, planer, sander, jointer, lathe, band saw, drill press, miter saw) I have it hooked to is right in front of me and drowns out the noise it makes.

Try this thread on for size:

FWIW - the noise made by my HF DC is much more "pleasurble" than that of my Ridgid shopvac.

        Or this one:

        and this one

From the posts everyone seems to agree that the HF DC is much easier on the ears than a shop vac. Don't have one, can't comment.

What John said ... have nothing to compare it to.

A decibel meter (if that's the right term) might show that it's louder than the average shop vac, but I find the pitch of the noise less objectionable. What I always compare it to is a clothes dryer: it's like a large commercial clothes dryer, the kind in a laundromat, only louder ... kind of a mid-rangey whoosing noise rather than the shrill whine of a shop vac. With my ear muffs on, it's about like a household clothes dryer.

Thanks everyone for the quick response. I want to get it before Monday so I can get the AW magazine discounted price. Did any of you get the extended warranty?

Not me, I never buy extended warranties.

No extended warranty for me, either. There's really not much that can go wrong with a DC except for the motor. Of course, that IS the expensive part ... but given the virtually no-questions-asked return policy at most HF stores, I can't see the need for an extended warranty.

Except, of course, for the run of bad switches on the HF 2HP units.

I advise you to find Loring's wireless remote design, then bypass the switch. My switch failed even though I had it permanently in the On position, using an X10 wireless remote to enable it.

My tests above indicated that by the numbers the DC was quieter than the SV.

technically, while I found the shop vac noisier than the DC, the shop vac sounded even worse than the numbers because of its shrill pitch.
