Seems to me fairly few bandsaws actually support riser extension blocks except for the popular cast iron 14" sized bandsaws. In those bandsaws it seems to be a standard feature, but not in the sheet metal euro-style saws of any size (including 14"). Among the 12" saws, only the hitachi seems to have riser capability, the jet and delta 12" saws don't take risers.

I got the riser kit for my Go55 Griz when I bought it not knowing how much I would use the extra capacity. Simple reasons are that it would have to be taken apart to add it on later and any $$$ spent on standard length blades would then be wasted.
Probably have used around 8" so far.Don, aka Pappy,

I too resaw quite a bit on my band saw. In fact, so far I have probably done more re-sawing with it than any other type of work.
I also fully agree with what Ken said about a band saw being one of those tools that after you get one you'll be amazed at all the uses you find for it.
I recently replaced my HF band saw with an 18" ShopFox and had a buyer for my HF model. But even in my very small and crowded shop I have not gotten rid of the HP yet because I'm finding that two band saws is very convenient. Plus I put an expensive carbide blade on my larger saw for resawing (works fantastic) and I use my HF for all the other tasks with varying sizes of blades.
I say get one, I doubt very seriously you'll be sorry you did.

The Craftsman Model 22432 12" bandsaw is identical to the Hitachi and has a riser block availible. It is the one that was on clearance that so many people on this forum purchased.
L. D. Jeffries, if you have the this version then check this site out. You can get an OEM riser block.

Edit : Ooops. Looks like that forum was shut down.
See my post which is #21 in this thread for riser block order info :

I have the Craftsman Model 22432 and have had some problems with the riser block kit.
First, the 1 1/4 " wrench was 25 bucks at sears. For 1 use it was a waste of money.
Second, the kit I got from Power Tool specialist was not the correct one for the saw. I had to machine the blade guards. The back one was cut in to and reconnected with aluminum plates of the same width. Lots of locations that needed to be trimmed to fit right. The front one had to be trimmed for length.
Third, the is no off the shelf blade that will fit. The bald they ship with the kit is too long. I ended up with a custom length Timber wolf blade and love it.
Over all it was a pain in the neck and cost about 110 bucks once done. But I theoretically have a saw that can handle up to 11.5 inches. (The one large test piece I did was 7 1/5 inch poplar and it went thru like a hot knife in warm butter.).
There is a thread that I started about blade length were Sarge and Loring helped educate me about the blade tension/length. Here is the link.

Riser Block Info
Jeffrey; This is in answer to your post the other day. I called Power Tool Specialist, Inc. this AM and have the following updated info for anyone else who might be interested. The telephone # is now: 1-803-980-7740. The extension # (233) is still OK, but Joe is no longer there. New guy is Jim Flynn. New e-mail is: "tradesman@rexon.com. Bad news is that they do not have any risers for the Sears 12", model 137-224320 in stock. Jim said he was going to e-mail China and see if they were going to produce anymore of them and what would be the time-frame. He will get back to me on that. Guess if I can't get the Sears up-graded I'll just have to take a trip to GriZZly. The PA store is only a half days trip. My woodworking buddy and I usually make at least one trip per year down there. Talk about the worlds best woodworking "candy store", phew, I guess!
Thanks for your initial info; hope this update will help someone else.

Nothing wrong with a trip to Grizzly. I am passing Muncy on my way to Williamsport today. It's a good think Grizzly doesn't have regular sales or I would have to stop in every time I go past the store. That, my friend, would just be too expensive.Jeffrey; This is in answer to your post the other day.
