    BT3X00 SharkGuard Question

I used to have a Shark on my BT about 3-years ago. Have since sold the saw and can't remember how the Shark was attached/removed from the saw. Was it toolless? (Pics would be helpful too)

    Thanks

It is toolless. Go to Lee's website or do a search on SharkGuard. You should find plenty of info. Bill

Did some digg'n at Lee's site and it hit me like a brick. The BT does not have a toolless splitter design but it doesn't need to be. Once the shark splitter is set just below the blade height there really isn't a need to remove it (unless you are using a dado stack) because the BT has a riving knife design. My new saw doesn't have the riving knife design so I need to remove it for non-through cuts.

        Sounds kind of primitive!

I agree, but, I was surprised to find how many "high end" TS's that don't have one.

I could easily make a bracket to fit the Ryobi to make it tooless. I make one to fit the Dewalt 746 that has two bolts to mount the splitter. This tooless bracket does make it better on that saw and is worth the extra cost of the bracket.
As you stated, its not needed on a saw like the BT or any saw with a riving knife. It never has to come off unless doing dado's.
There are some newer saws that are coming out with riving knives finally. They are high end saws though. You should see more saws coming out with riving knives in the next couple years in all the price ranges. I think I see motions for American manufacturers to move in that direction and it's not a moment too soon.
            What saw do you have?

Lee - I have a new Unisaw with a Delta Removable Splitter. I have a Shark on order from you for this saw. Actually this is my third TS (hopefully the last) and all had a Shark - BT, 22124, and Uni. Looks like the more I paid for the saw the less I like the OEM splitter/guard design but thanks to your Shark's I have something I feel comfortable with and use all the time.

After looking at your web page at the DeWalt 746 set-up (looks like you need to pull the ring on the spring loaded pin to remove the splitter...correct?) why couldn't a spring loaded pin be incorporated into this Delta saw. Or maybe it wouldn't save much time since it just takes a twist of the knurled knob to loosen/tighten the splitter.
