    ROUTER PLATE(s)

How thick are your router plates?

I talked with dad about building the router tables, he has a stand that he is thinking of replacing the top on and using it for the table.
I had been looking at buying a plate, but the Bosch I currently have, will eventually be replace in the table (with a dedicated 3+hp one), and it has the raiser base that came with it. So I have some access to 1/4" aluminum (if I act fast) and was wondering if that would be stiff enough, so I don't buy a plate twice (or have to modify one).

The two routers we are looking at using are, Bosch 1617evs and or 1618, and the PC690.

Thanks all, just trying to get the idea's in my head straight, BEFORE I start building.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

1/4" aluminum will be MORE than sufficient.
Assuming you keep the plate to normal dimensions of around 9-10" x 12-14"

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

I bought a phenolic plate for my FT1700 from Hartville for ~ $30...I liked it enough that I bought a second one for my MW5625. It's strong, adjustable, and reasonably priced.
