New life for an old tool!

That kinda describes me too sometimes!
I was given an old, don't know how old, 4-1/8" jointer/planer and decided to spend some time making it usable. The blades were nicked and after about 2 hours of work with wet-dry sandpaper and another half hour getting them reset in the machine, they cut very well.
Then there was the fact that the guard was missing. I looked all over for information on this thing and although I found a few guards on ebay that I may have adapted, nothing appeared to be a replacement part....so I made one. It works good and helps keep my valuable fingers away from the blades.
This is why I am so reluctant to throw away anything. The spring, small ball bearing, hardware and wood pieces were kept around...just in case!

Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?

I respectfully disagree .... the REALLY hard part is finding them WHEN YOU WANT THEM!!!!
If it ain't broke.. don't fix it!!!... but you can always 'hop it up'

You got me there, I do always seem to find them AFTER I got tired of looking and went out and bought the piece / part.

That's using your head. Good work. You should have posted your needs, probably several members have exactly what you were missing in the "never-throw-away-box" like mine.
