Where to get a blade sharpened in Chicago area

I think the blade on my BT3K needs sharpening. Think the burning and smoking gave it away. So I'm still learning, give me a break. Or do I just need to clean the gunk off of it? Anyone know of a place in the Chicago area? Preferable in the NW suburbs.

    Thanks.

If you have pitch build-up on your blade then you might just need to clean it. Depending on how often you use your saw and what type of wood you're using its a good idea to get into a cleaning routine. I just keep an eye on my blades and whenever I see any kind of build-up I clean the blade.

For a local sharpening service I'd check the Yellow Pages. If you can't find one doing that, check with your neighborhood hardware store. Many of them will take blades in to be resharpened. They generally send them out to a third party for sharpening and turn around time is about a week.

Agree that you should do this before sharpening anything.

I think the best bet is to ask at your local hardware store service desk or tool crib. As quoted above, most of these places contract to a third party who makes the rounds once a week for P/U and delivery. I found most all the places here must use the same contractor because the price lists are identical (e.g. as in photocopied) except for the store name at the top. These included Lowes, HD, ACE, and Sears Hardware and Sears Service Center

I have found thru my and other's experience here that sharpening 10" carbide blades costs between $.25 and .33 per tooth.

Andy, I have seen a couple of ACEs that offer sharpening services in Chicago. One is in the Edgebrook neighborhood in the northwest side.

        Check out your local ACE.
