Any opinions on these? Are they on par with the Besseys and Jorgensens? I have a line on some 30 inchers for ten bucks apiece.

are you comparing apples to oranges? Bessey and Jorg. are widely known for the parallel jaw K-body and Cabinet Master (respective trademarks) models, which are not what most people call bar clamps. Though Bessey and Jorgenson make bar clamps they are not super popular, they generally are higher quality (slightly heavier and stiffer and better finish and more $$$) than the HF and Columbian ones which are widely used because they are cheap and give a lot of bang for the buck. The Irwin Record bar clamps are probably comparable to the bessey and Jorg. bar clamps, a fair bit better than the HF and Columbian and no-name ones.

The ones I'm looking at are F style clamps, not the K-body clamps. Apparently Irwin makes two styles - what they call "passive", which are like the Bessey's in that they don't have a clutch, and clutch-style like the Jorgensens.
I particularly interested in these because they have a 5" throat.Comment
