    Little BS Gloat ... $1.17/lb

Alot of you already knew that Sears was offering up to 30% off internet orders of $400 or more over Labor Day weekend. The "not as little as I thought" 12 inch 22400 Craftsman BS was available for as low as $189 ... with a little wheeling and dealing. (...I added a router kit that went immediatly on the auction block, and I just about broke even on it. That extra item lowered the BS price by > $50 from $242.99 to 189.99).

It's alot larger than I thought. I assumed if I left off the leg stand that it would be able to sit on the lazy susan where my 9" Ryobi camped along with the DP, sander, and mortiser... but that's just not gonna happen, so I'll need to get some wheels and find a home for it. It stands ~43" tall without the leg stand and weighs 163#...on the stand it's ~ 64" tall. AFAIK it's made by Rikon.

Okay, so it's no Minimax MM16, but it is alot of saw for the money and offers enough capacity to do the vast majority of what I'll need. The fit and finish and overall quality exceeded my expectations. It went together well, and the stand was really nicely done. The 22400 has a 16"x 20" cast iron table with twin miter slots, a functional fence, a light, 7" resaw, dual DC ports, dual speeds, 3/4hp motor, cast aluminum wheels, cast aluminum trunnions, and a roller bearing guides. At $300 I'd feel I got my money's worth....at $189 I thought I'd gloat a little!

4 new Timberwolf blades are on the way, but it's doing ok even with the stock blade. I know Sears takes alot of heat from alot of people ... and I was once one of them, but the two most recent Craftsman tools in my shop are exceptional values that IMO are tough to beat. I'll give credit where credit is due.... nice job Sears.

That's a sweet looking saw! It really has a nice collection of features in a compact configuration. That 7" resaw is going to be good for 90% of what you'll need.

at $189, I'd say you definitely deserve a

Why thanky very much! I've given several, but haven't "received" an official "you suck" in a long time! It is indeed better to receive than give.

Dustmight, great deal you go there! I have the 14" version and like it quite a lot, though it cost me about twice as much. Good score! Question for you, does your 4" dust port have a plate blocking it? Mine does, and I've been tying with drilling a bunch of holes in it to improve the dust collection.

Hi Keith - Yes to the "dust plate"! What an invention! That was one of the knitpicks that puzzled me, and I had the same thought about drilling it. Another knitpick that I may take action on first, is how hard it is to twist the tensioning knob....it requires quite a few turns from untensioned to tensioned and would really benefit from a handle of some sort.

I had thought the saw was made by Rikon, but someone else mentioned that it's made by Yukon Tools.....your thoughts?

Good score on that. Fine looking saw as well. I have the little 10" and love it. As for the throat plate, I made mine out of aluminum. While I was resawing some wood on my HF bandsaw with a plastic TP, it sucked the wood right through the TP. Near miss. I then made aluminum ones for both saws.
I think the air is drawn into the saw around the door. Its only a small crack, but not airtight. Perhaps the doors are tighter on yours.
Anyway, what I am getting at is weakening the TP can have bad repercussions when these are plastic. Be carefull at the start of a cut especially if resawing on the edge of a board.
              Have fun with that.

Thanks Lee. Keith and I were actually joking about a plate that covers about 80% of the 4" dust port. You can't see if from the pic b/c I put a cover over it, but we don't get why they'd offer the 4" port, then choke most of it off.

I was wondering about a ZCI around the blade though. Do you know of any place to actually buy one for the saw? They look a bit tougher to make than a ZCI for a TS.

I don't know of anyplace off hand that sells these. I know I have seen plates before, but can't recall where.
I have been thinking about making some different sized ones out of phenolic. I have a cnc router, so it should be a breeze to make them and cost effective as well I would think. Since I have personally found that it can be a safety issue, I'm interested.
Just something I'll have to look into further.

That sounds odd about the 4" port being partially open. Does the manual not say anything about it?

If it said anything about the port, I missed it, and there doesn't appear to be anyway to defeat it other than destroy it!

If you ever make an insert that'll fit the 22400 please let me know...you'll be hired on the spot!

That is a fine looking machine. I almost bought one when you did a few weeks ago. I have checked them out in the store and am really impressed. I, too, am an "anything but Craftsman" person, but I have to admit, they have REALLY turned things around and have altered my opinion.

I think the 10" is on sale this week (probably until today) for $120. I am really thinking about picking one up, but then again, I would like to have the 12 or 14 : )

The 10" seems to be pretty nice for a small machine, but having just gone from a 9" Ryobi to the 12", it's really a pretty substantial jump in capacities and capabilities, so if there's any way to do it.....but it's a big jump in price.

The 10" is great for what I do and would be great for doing small projects and pen blanks and such.
The 12" can probably do some smaller bandsaw boxes. 7" is nice to have above the table.
I think my HF only has about 6". No riser block yet.
If you can think to measure the throat opening and depth of the seat, I'll see if it's the same as the little saw.

Looks to be 2-3/4" dia x 3/16" thick.
