Can this chipped tooth be repaired?

This is on a Freud 24T LU87 (?) thin kerf blade... very new. Ugh.

Don't know how or when it happened... can this be repaired? If so, who does that sort of work--where do I find 'em?

The pic is the SAME one chipped tooth from different angles.

    Thanks!

If you weren't ripping stock that had a nail concealed (you would have heard metal on metal and felt a jolt), I would get the number and call Freud's tech line or customer service. If that is a new blade, I believe they will replace it for free. The carbide on that tip probably had a defect.

Click on warranty. They have a phone # listed there also.

    Good luck...

Sounds like pretty good advice to me.

Besides, they'll probably give you a pretty good quote on the Blades' repair if they won't "make it right" and give you a NEW replacement Blade.

Any reputable sharpening service should be able to replace that tooth for you. Check the Yellow Pages, local hardware stores or lumber yards for one near you.

As far as I know, Freud doesn't offer a resharpening service so if the problem is with the blade and not your fault, they will probably just replace the blade.

If for some reason it's not under warranty (you best option, if it applies)
most blade sharpeneing services will replace a carbide tooth for a few dollars. Most hardware stores tool bin or service counters can take a blade and send it in. In my area, a sharpeneing service somes around weekly to the stores and picks up and delivers, thus, turnaround is a 1 week-2 weeks. All the hardware stores have the same "menu" of services amd prices.

You would be real lucky to get a new blade. You could try crying out loud. Or, maybe they will fix it for free. If you send it away, it may be a while getting it back. As for sharpening/or repair, look in the yellow pages under "saws" or "saws - sharpening - repairing." Some facilities also do router bit sharpening and repair. If you fail to find one that can attend to the carbide repair, call some local cabinet shops and ask them where they get it done and get a recommendation. Sometimes I get a "turn-around" in less than a week. I've never considered that "classified information."

I was under the impression that they did have a sharpening service. I'll need to check the card when I get home, but I believe that was the enclosed card with my blades.
If your not in a hurry for it, both Forrest and Ridge carbide have been reccommended to me as the "best" sharpening services.

                Sarge, I salute you!

Called Freud... they didn't want to hear anything about it... didn't want to even stay on the phone for more than 30 seconds! All they wanted to say was "JUST SEND IT BACK", no RMA, no receipt, proof of purchase, proof of warranty, no hassle, no fuss, no conversation.

                AWESOME!

I had a feeling they would. You're talking about a $40 retail blade that cost them probably about $10 to produce. It's called "customer service" as they just gained more by your post of satisfaction than they could have with a lot of bucks spent advertising.

                  Have a good day...

                    David,

I had a similar problem with an Oldham 10" 40T blade. It inexplicably lost a tooth while cutting a piece of 1/2" "virgin" plywood.

I sent it to them with a letter explaining what happened. No prior phone call.
They sent me a new blade and a letter of apology. For my trouble, they also sent me a blade holder and a new 7 1/2" blade. Now that's advertising.

                    Steve
