    Delta 36-255L Problem

    Hey all,

My BEST tool of all, my Dual laser Compound Miter Saw, has a small issue; The lasers kicked out on me a few months back. It was not a huge deal because I have been using it to frame out and build my new deck, but now that is done and I moved it back into the shop. I figured I would get the lasers fixed (no mention of repair in the manual). My local Delat repair shop quoted me 'at least $125 to fix it".

I only paid $189 for the thing 2 years when Amazon was blowing them out the door. The saw function still works great, but the lasers make life so easy and idiot proof. Has anyone ever had this issue? or know how to troubleshoot it?

    Thanks in advance, as usual,

    Lee

Are the lasers they type that are mounted in a disk along-side the blade and on the arbor?

If so, you could get the disks themselves from Delta as repair parts, maybe around $50-60.

      Lee,

Any idea what, exactly, is wrong? That $125 quote is probably a flat-rate minimum.

If it's just a bad switch (and if BOTH lasers are out that might well point to the switch), you could probably fix it yourself.

Another thought ... elementary, but for the sake of completeness ... are the lenses clean? On my 36-255L, the lenses sometimes get so covered up with sawdust that one of them almost appears to be dying. A quick shot of compressed air and they're as good as new.

Loring, you are right on with the replacement prices, $65 for *NEW* lasers, my fear is that the actual lasers are not the issue. I would do that, if I knew for sure.

Larry, yes they are clean, and yes they are both out. I think your switch theory makes a lot of sense. I was using the saw with both lasers working, and then shut them off after a cut, and when I tried to fire them back up, nothing.

I guess I should call up Delta and order a replacement switch.

Thanks a ton guys. You know what they say, sometimes you can't see the trees through the forest.

Before you call them Lee, I would check to make sure that a connector is not corroded causing bad contact or dis-connected on the current switch. I would also trace the wire to make sure there isn't a fray leaving naked wire that is shorting and the connectors on the other end are in good condition also.

          Good luck...

            Sarge,

wires look good, and all the wire nuts seem tight. New switch is $6 and should be in by the weekend. I'll keep you all posted.
