    HF 23 gauge nailers

I was thinking of getting a pin nailer but I'm not sure if I will find it useful.

For large glue up, I would not feel comfortable using 23 gauge nails to hold the pieces together. For small glue up, I have no problems using clamps.

Anyway, HF has a pin nailer on sale for $40 (normally $60). Is this a good nailer?

HF also have another pin nailer for $25. It is made by the same company and handles the same length of nails. I haven't figure out what is the difference between the two nailers or which one is better.

I too would like a pin nailer and everybody that has one likes it if not loves it but I just don't see where I actually need one with my crown and brad guns. Course for $40.00 it sure might be worth it.

they're truly for light holding - model work and stuff.
One big advantage is that they leave a hole about 1/4th the size or less
of a 18 ga nailer. Some time back I posted close-up pics of a piece of wood with
16 ga, 18 ga and 23 ga nail holes for comparison.

If your only tool is a hammer, you tend to treat all problems as if they were nails.

        pin nailer

I have the one in the first link and use it in many applications in my shop.

It can be used for moderate holding. The gun works well and has found a home in my shop. No issues with jamming or misfires.

Are these only available online? They never stocked them at the San Diego
stores. Any difference on the East Coast?

I have used mine for model work and light to moderate holding. gives the glue up a chance and is almost invisable. Love the one I have. Will not replace the 16 or 18 gage but I would not give it up.

                I wonder:

Where you buy the 23 guage pins for this nail gun?

Whether the 21 guage pinner offered by Woodcraft is a more useful tool than the HF 23 guage pinner. The Woodcraft gun takes 1 3/8" pins versus only 1" pins for the Harbour Freight gun.

"Where you buy the 23 guage pins for this nail gun?"

HF carrys the 1/2" long 23 gauge pins (10,000 for $5). I would guess that any store that sells 23 gauge pinners will have the nails.

I already have a 16 gauge nailer so I'm not sure whether a 21 guage nailer would be all that useful. A 21 gauge nail will obviously leave a bigger hole than a 23 guage nail. For such a small nail, I'm also not sure if it is practical to use nails longer than 1" due to possible deflection in the wood.
