I guess I'll have to rethink this then. I wasn't aware of that, only the BD/Dewalt connection.
As long as the quality of PC remains I'll have no problem purchasing them in the future. as a whole Dewalt power tools are avoided in our shop becasue the Makitas seem to last longer. I'm speaking here of angle grinders, electric drills and otehr tools used in a welding & machining shop.

I presume you mean a dual-base kit for that money (single speed)? The kit includes template set and it already justifies the price difference.
And BTW, I don't have one but I know there is a dust chute for that Hitachi. I have seen it sold thru amazon by all-parts? or something like this for around $25 plus shipping.

        RHunter,

I purchased the Hitachi M 12VC fixed base for a dedicated dovetail router and ran it a while the other day and it was smooth as silk. I do not know about the long range durability. The only thing that I do not like about it is the heigth adjustment system as compared to my Milwaukee 5615 but if you are a PC guy you will like it as it appears to be a clone of their router. The cost is only about half that of a 5616 so how can you go wrong unless you are running it at a production pace and then there could possibly be some issues with durability but no one knows yet.

To me the appearance of the materials and manufacturing tolerances do not stack up to the Milwaukee but if it runs great for a good length of time it could still be a great buy.

I do not have a Bosch so cannot compare there.

The only DeWalt I have is the 621 so cannot compare it to the 618 either.

        Sorry!!

In summary, I think that it is probably a good router for the money. Especially for a dedicated dovetail router. Works for me so far.

Hey, with the KM12VC on sale at Amazon right now, I really can't see spending ~$75 to get just the Fixed Base router, when for $119 + Free Delivery I can get the Kit.

I have an M12V in my Router Table, so parts may/may not swap (I have the vacuum attachment, but took it off the M12V when the hoses interfered with operation under the table), and I'm hoping the edge guide works with the KM12VC...

Either way, I've got one in my Amazon Shopping Cart right now. And who know's I may have enough scratch left over to get a the 1617EVSPK-RT from CPO Bosch. I bought my single speed Colt from them and love it over my 7310 PC Trim Router.

Thanx again folks for the advise!
