is "Cranked" as referring to the collet wrench the queens way of saying what we yanks would call an "offset" wrench referring the the articulation in the handle?

Thanks for the review. Did you notice any bit slippage mentoined in the previous thread or do you think that problem has been addressed with the new collet?

I've NEVER had any bit slippage, David, although with the Hitachi-style collet, you do have to lean on it quite a bit to ensure correct tightness. It relies on a wide but shallow conical seating, so takes more pressure to tighten than a taller but narrower seat.

The "self-releasing" style adopted for the new model may have been used to overcome this alleged problem, but as I've never experienced it, I can only guess. Certainly, the new style (as was fitted to a previous router I owned, the Ryobi RE601E) needs a little more turning to tighten it (i.e., a longer arc with the wrench), but it's rock-solid once set. HTH

Well Guys, it turns out this machine has been available in Oz for about 5 months - I just didn't recognize it on the shelf! The shape is identical to its big brother.

Guess what? One just happened to find it's way to my place
Also means I need to replace the old router table...

Looks like the old Ryobi R150 is retired - after 15 years faithful service.

BTW - I paid about US$215 (No above table height adjustment etc. comes in a separate Accessories pack) and no plastic case.

The Fine Woodworking article says it's $200 at Amazon, including the options.

The article also mentions a fence that serves as an edge guide and can also be used as a circle cutting jig. That sounds kind of cool.

It's $299 here with everything

$299 Canadian runs at about £146.00 ($360 Australian) at current rates.

Including everything, I reckon Rod's would have cost around £121.00 ($300 Australian).

Mine was £130 ($266 Canadian, $322 Australian) with everything included.

I just checked Busy Bee website and discovered they actually list this at $525, on SALE for $299.
Guess I need to get my butt over there before August 12th.
