Jointer questions

I have been looking at the Rigid and the Delta since I only have HD and Lowes close by. I have also looked at the new Grizzly. If it wasn't for the shipping charges the Grizzly looks real nice.
A couple of questions.
HD by me has the jointer listed for $399 but $349 on the web site, will they honor the web price, and if so can I alo use a 20% of coupon?
Also does the Hercu Lift fit the jointer?
Why are the jointer tables so low?
Are there taller jointers?

Can't answer the coupon/price match questions, but the height of a jointer is because of the work you do on it. You want the work down near arms length to maintain full control of the stock.

No, on the Hercu Lift. Best design I ever saw was on an OLD, OLD post, on the Ridgid forums. The guy made his own out of angle iron, wheels, and some homemade levelers. Ridgid, does NOT reccommend a roller/leveler for these.



DIsclaimer added: While I did look at the Delta, at Lowes, I ended up with the Ridgid, due to the price I bought it at. A local shipping recovery place, got a batch in and sold them on ebay. They aren't far from my house, and my father works for them, so I was the high bidder, and they loaded it and sent it home with him (gave $255). If I was going to pay retail, I am a few hours drive from Grizzly, and it would give me a good excuse for a couple days off, to really compare.
Don't forget your want ads, and things like Craiglist (I first missed a Delta from the late 40's early 50's for $75). Look the day you buy, or else you'll end up missing something (based on my luck)

As a note, if there are more HD's in your area you may want to try another one. The two HD's within quick trip distance from me have it listed as $399 another one that is about 30min away has it for $350.

I think they would match the price - they are tagged at $349 here. I put my Ridgid on a HTC mobile base so I can move to the drive with it when milling. Works great.

Whether or not they will match is the manager's discretion. None of my local HD's will match their web prices (even if it's free shipping).

It can't hurt to ask though especially if you mention that you are choosing between the Ridgid and a model at their competition. YMMV

I've also seen the $399 vs $349 difference between two HDs about 10 miles apart. Looks like if you want one, you should grab it at $349. They are going up.

Thanks for the info. I am so use to the height of the benchtop model the floor models all seemd so low but that makes sense about working at arms length. Thanks for the info on the base, I really do need it to be mobile since I do this out of my garage. Liked the price of the rigid but when yuou add the cost of the mobile base the Grizzly may be cheaper and it seems like a nice unit.

All things being equal I'd get the Ridgid because it looks a little nicer, they probably work about the same.

But last Spring there were two rebates totalling $60 in check an gift cards from Lowes plus a 10% moving coupon so i got the JT360 for about $255.
I put it on a HTC2000 mobile base I bought on sale a couple of years back, for when i got a jointer, and its quite happy.

Seems to work well. A fair bit of leakage of chips around the seams even with some dust collection.
