    Preserving machines in shop

    My shop is in an outbuilding and subject to some moisture. What should I use to protect the following equipment from rust? I'm not very savvy so go ahead and be very specific as far as exactly what product or type of product to use. Thanks!!

    Ryobi Drill Press (the table already got a little rust spot on it!)
    Delta Mortiser
    BT3100 (de rigueur)
    Ridgid miter saw

          Paste wax will help prevent rust and make stock slide smoother. Just make sure what you use doesn't contain silicones.

              To get rust out/off I use naval jelly and some steel wool (be gentle). After a thorough cleaning I use paste wax only.

                  On cast iron parts, I like to use T-9 with a coat of paste wax on top of it. I have also occasionally used a light coat of motor oil, which seem to work fine.

                  On the BT3100, I would just use wax on the surface parts (not the rails) and light grease on the internal parts.

                      I recommend you also protect working surfaces with dust covers.
                      Downunder ... 1" = 25.4mm
