What dust collection setup do you use?

It's time to finally get a dc setup for the shop. Seems like the HF DC with the Wynn conversion is popular with forum members here. I'm really curious as to how satified forum members are with this setup and others. I wanted to get some valued opinions from members so any comments would you provide will be greatly appreciated.

Remember there are 2 Wynn conversions polyester reinforced paper and spun polyester. I have the paper and it does a great job. But it is tougher to clean when the time comes. The spun poly is washable but doesn't filter the smallest particles.

i use the HF with a Griz canister upgrade. - hence "other"
I also use a shopvac/sear autoswitch with the drillpress and Bandsaw in the opposite corner of the shop- haven't plumbed it up yet to the DC.

          2hp HF DC

1 micron, 16 oz Shaker Felt, 20" to 24" bell shape by 48" Tall bag from Process Systems & Componets Inc

installation of DC and ducts are overhead. Dimisions of bag result in huge air flow. Very easy to clean. JDS disposable plastic bag on bottom.

Oh, ya it all cost less than $150

I'm also using the Griz 1029 w/.3 mic bags and would also recommend it. I have several friends with this unit and all are satisfied with it.

HF out of the box with a Jet Dust separator, so I voted HF and Other.

My separator seems to do the job as long as I remember to empty it before it gets too full. still need to buy hoods for my planer and jointer though.

                  'Nuther "other".

Grizzly 1029z with 0.3 micron bag on top, and a plastic bag (protected by the 30 micron bag) on bottom.

                  I've been satisfied this setup.

                  Regards,

Hey . . . . . why didn't I think of that? Probably easier to put the plastic bag on too when it is inside the belted bottom cloth bag.
                    Thanks!

I use a Shop Vac with a five-port rectangular plastic manifold/chip separator (my Frankenvac). I recently modified the Frankenvac so the port that connects to the ShopVac is only sucking from the top 1" of the plastic box, so the Shop Vac really isn't constantly scrubbing the box any more. Total cost for the six ports and the plastic box was about $32.

I am currently using the DC that was installed in my shop when my wife's grandfather built it 50 years ago. I think it's called "gravity," and it's still being made. However, it doesn't do a very good job of putting the chips and dust where I want it. They tend to go everywhere, and then I have to manually clean. I have modified the system a little with a shop vac, which does help. Hopefully, one day soon, I'll get to upgrade to something better.
