    Bosch 1617 Accessory Kit

I purchased the Bosch 1617EVSPKE package (w/ accessory kit) a short time ago. I have a chance to use it this weekend... so I was going thru the contents and hooking it up to a table plate etc. In doing so, I came across a plastic dust collector that doesn't seem to fit any of the descriptions in the book (it is not the RA1170). The one for the plunge base is fine. This does not seem to match any holes in the fixed base that I can tell. According to the manual, the one for the fixed base looks different. How/where is this dc base used? They also show some thumb screws (4mm I believe) that connect the DC, but the only thumb screws I received appear to be too big. Also, there is another bag with a round plastic tube.. which appears to be a way to extend the dust collector. I don't know why this may have been included. There is also a small round plastic piece with a small metal shaft connected to it. I don't know what that part is for either.

Sorry, I don't have any pics at the moment.. but any info would be appreciated.

The dust nozzle that is circular and has an angled outlet tube fits into the plunge base. The one that is shaped sort of like a U and has a straight outlet tube fits onto the bottom of the edge guide; see the edge guide manual for how it installs.

The short, black plastic tube adapts the Bosch nozzles to a standard 1-1/4" shop vac hose.

The small, round plastic piece with the metal shaft is the center-pin attachment that allows the edge guide to be used as a trammel arm. Again, see the edge guide manual.

I just added the same router kit to my stable, and the completeness and usefulness of the included accessories is really rather amazing, isn't it?

I got the same kit and did wonder about the extra DC. It fits to the edge guide. The tube adapts for a vacumn hose.

I have only used it a few times but so far I think this is a great kit.

I havent tried to use the arc/circle adaptor, has anybody else used it and how well does it work?

Ahhh... I didn't think of looking at the edge guide! I'm not sure what a trammel arm is... but I guess it is good I got it! Overall, the kit seems pretty good.. especially since it came with my router. It would have been nice if they included the other dc part (RA1170), but I guess if you use the edge guide, it isn't necessary. Maybe it would offer better dust collection when used in a table mount though (or when using the fixed mount without an edge guide). The fine adjustment knob would be a nice addition as well. The other thing I noticed.. is it appears the plastic case has 'homes' for most of the accessories but not the dc or edge guide. It would be nice if I could put it all together in the one box.

Did yours come with the proper thumb screws?

        thanks for the info!

I have, twice, and it works very well. There's a *slight* amount of slop in the hole into which the centerpin fits, so you need to firmly hold the router in tension against the pin as you make the cut.

Other than that, and the obvious length limitations (i.e., you won't be cutting out any 42" circular dining room tables with this thing), it works great.

PALefty: a trammel arm is a circle-cutting fixture; see above. And yes, it is a bit of a disappointment that the case does not include storage provisions for ALL the accessories. You will also find, if you've not already, that the case won't close if some of the accessories are attached ... for example, you have to remove the plunge base dust nozzle, and even the thumbscrews that secure it have to be run most of the way in. Kind of annoying in such an otherwise well-thought-out kit.

My kit included an abundance of screws, thumb and otherwise, not all of which I've yet discovered their function. I didn't get shorted: I've been able to find a pair for everything I've tried to attach. But there appear to be some mysterious "extras" in there, too.

            Dust Extraction for table mount

I'm still trying to find the right fitting for the 1617**** fixed base in a table mount. I understand that its the chips above the table that are in the greatest quantity, but I would like to catch the below-table dust as well, and none of the fittings in the kit that came with my unit (a year or so ago) seem to offer any help. Anybody know the simple answer?

I agree. I guess perhaps they came out with the edge guide and some of the other accessories after they designed the molds for the case and didn't want to re-engineer it.

I was hoping the other dc would perform this function... but I guess not. It would be nice if it did...

Are you standing near something soft? I don't want you to hurt yourself when you fall over.

Yes, I did. I mentioned it in some Bargain Alerts thread, but you must have missed it. When amazon.com put the 1617EVSPKE kit -- that's the one that includes the deluxe edge guide, and the guide bushings, and the dust funnels, and the above-table adjusting handle, and the centering cone, and a partridge in a pear tree -- on sale for a delivered price, after all discounts, of $145.58, I was finally presented with a 1617 offer I could not refuse. I really didn't need it, but at that price, well ...

I have also been trying to find a way to catch the chips below the table. I have been routing a lot of dados lately, so all the chips are below he table, not above where my DC is located.
