Which type of dado blade should I buy?

The wobble type or the stacking type? 6” or 8”? I read it somewhere the recommended requirements for using dado blades on BT3100 are as follows:

Maximum diameter 6-1/2"
Maximum width of cut 13/16"
rated for at least 5,500 rpm

Sears Canada has two sets on sale for half price. Craftsman 8” Carbide-Tipped Dado Blade Set in wood box #30026 for C$ 49.99 (US$ 45) and Craftsman 6” Carbide-Tipped Dado Blade Set in plastic case #30806 for C$ 44.99 (US$ 40).

Does anybody have experience with either of these sets? Should I get one? Sale ends tonight.

The 8" will cause you problems hitting the housing on anything over 1/2" cut.
6" is recommended for the BT.
The manual states DO NOT USE WOBBLE DADO!!
I have the Craftsman 6" set and haven't had any problems with it the few times I've used it. It's not available in the US.
BTW it will go on sale again. Usually about once a month.

the crasftman 6" set is HSS only (no carbide) and made by Vermont American. (two negatives).

I would recommend the SD206 stacked dado by Freud, often found for $75 or so on sale at places like Amazon. and Rockler. A much better buy than the Craftsman.

A 6" stacked set, the best quality you can afford, is the best investment now and later.
If you buy a wobble dado, be advised that all other woodworkers have the right to slap you on top of the head........and that is only a partial distortion. See the link below.

I am not sure if we are talking about the same blade. In the flyer they probably show the 8" one (wood box) and the item numbers are different on the web site. They advertise both as a carbide-tipped blade set. I just called a store and the salesman said the 8" one is not carbide!?!?

HD has the SD208 only. The best price I found on line for SD206 is three times higher than the Craftsman. Amazon won't ship it to Canada. Even if they would, after taxes, duties, shipping charges, etc. it isn't a good deal anymore.

The one I bought is the one that always goes on sale and the 6" is definitely carbide tipped.

Lee Valley?

You might consider the Lee Valley Chip-Limit Dado, 6" x 18 tooth part # 15W01.03. It is listed at $179 cdn which I know is pricey, but I bet it would be a nice unit. I suppose you already checked your local Can Tire. They only show 8" units in their on-line catalog.

OK so it's my fourth favorite store (Lee Valley, Busy Bee, House of Tools). I still wouldn't buy a tool that I wanted to last unless it was a screaming hot deal.

I can’t find a SD206 set in the whole city (Toronto). Every store has SD208’s but not the 6” set. Went to Busy Bee because their computer shows two in stock but they actually didn’t have any in the store. Finally, I picked up the 6” Craftsman set at Sears. Yes, they are carbide tipped but have the same problem as Cain mentioned in this thread. http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=20571
