what do you do with really bad tools?

Once I know it can't be quickly salvaged or adjusted, I throw it in the trash, without a second thought. If LOML sees it she wants to save it saying something about "wasted money", but I throw it away anyway. No use keeping something around that adds to the junk I already have.

I keep them around, hoping to someday do something with them. This is why I have so much junk.....

The ones that are junk because they're inaccurate and untunable get given away to the first person that tells me they're thinking of getting one so they can try it out, maybe get a project out of it, and learn what to look for in a tool.

The ones that dangerous get thrown out.

I wasted too much time and wood in my younger years trying to make good projects with bad tools.

I said I give them to my son, and I have, but mostly I keep them. If I give them to Tom I warn him first what he is getting. I hate the idea of somebody else paying me for something that isn't worth anything. I am typically too cheap to throw them away but I think that is the best thing.

If discovered early enough, it gets returned for a refund. Unfortunately in some instances I've found out all to late! In which case, it gets cannilibized for anything worthwhile or else just disassembled and scrapped. A really bad tool I would worry about someone getting hurt with it otherwise.

Unfortunately, most of the time they still sit in my shop or another part of the basement collecting dust. I too, am on the cheap side and it pains me to throw something away.

Having worked most of my life with tools, I learned early on it don't pay to buy cheap tools. If a tool don't work it gets trashed.Those are the kind of tools that will hurt you.

I loan them to my son. That way, I know they'll get mistreated and never returned. Saves wear and tear on my garbage collector!
