    Purchased!

Thanks all for the great info. I decided to go with the Ridgid based on super reviews. Got it with a 20% off coupon and still get the $35 Gift Card, net effect about $245. Will be assembling and testing this weekend.

Does this jointer perform well on a universal mobile base, like the Delta Base? Or is there a better option? I use Hercs on everything else, but I understand that the Herc won't work on the jointer.

    Thanks again!

Throughout my racing career I was constantly reminded of this: "Keep the pointy end forward and the shiny side up!"

I had the HTC 2000 base on my BT3100 and wanted to put that in the Ridgid Jointer. I replaced the base for the BT3100 with a Herculift (love it). After drilling holes in the HTC for the leg bolts and sizing it correctly, I hate the HTC 2000 on the Ridgid Jointer. The fence holding piece just has too much weight to the back and it doesn't balance well at all with the wheels a little closer towards the center than the original pads. To compound things, when going mobile, the wheels are raised in the front, which makes the jointer pitch backwards more. It just isn't the right setup.

I am planning on making a torsion box and using non-locking casters with screw down levelers. This will do two things: First make moving a little safer. I feel like I'm half carrying the Jointer to keep it from tipping over. Second, it will raise the Jointer up a couple inches. I'm 6'5" tall and I don't like bending over to use it. I plan on stealing Tom's shop made levelers. I figure if I use the same sized bolt on all my levelers (eventually for Lathe stand, Jointer stand, and BT3100 Router combo stand) then I can just keep a cheap ratchet with that socket loaded for moving.
