    M12V issue

I would appreciate advice on this one.

I haven't even put 10 minutes on my M12V, so it's all but brand new. I went to remove the baseplate, and I was only able to get 2 of the 4 screws out. The other 2 now have stripped slots, and I can't turn them for the life of me.

I busted out my screw extractor set, and no joy. The screws are evidently made of butter, and epoxied in their mounts.

I tried warming the subbase up with my heat gun, and no budge. I got two of the screws out, and they seemed to have some gunk on the threads. I'm sure theothers have this as well.

Anybody else been down this road? I don't wanna send the thing back, but this has me really annoyed. I'm trying to mount a different baseplate. It won't mount over the existing one, I tried.

    Thanks in advance for suggestions.

    call customer service?

usually when it has gunk, that's lock-tite or similar, but there shouldn't be any on sub baseplate screws which are usually considered removable.

Don't know if it'll help you, but you could try contacting Hitachi -

      http://www.bt3central.com/showthread.php?t=18589

They responded very quickly for a broken part that was DOA... they might have ideas as to what to try?

      good luck

I did that to one screw on my M12v. The screws are brass, at least they are on mine, so you could carefully drill it out. You'll probabaly have to retap. I'd wait until you replace your extractor. Did you happen to buy it from HD recently. If so, take it back.

One other suggestion, if you've got a good machine shop around close, I'd bet that some one in there will have a trick or two. And if you look real hang dog, you might be in and out in a couple of minutes. It's worked for me. I usually scuff my toe on the floor as I explain how stupid I am and could anyone help me.

I recently got a new M12V, and took off the baseplate before mounting in my lift. No problems whatsoever getting the screws out, and they were in there pretty good (so good, in fact, that one of them had caused a crack in the baseplate - called Hitachi, and they're sending me a new plate).

Just how does one look real hang dog?

Sounds like someone at the factory put lock-tite on the wrong threads. With a brand new M12V, why bother fussing with a defective product? Take it back and pick up another at a different store and hope you bypass any others with that problem.

Muchas Gracias, Dave, I sent a request via their customer service page and registered the tool while I was at it.

I like the machine shop idea as well. That's staying in the back pocket in case I don't like the answer that I get from Hitachi.

              Thanks all.

I had issue with another Hitachi router collet stuck (not M12V). Hitachi tech support dirceted me to Hitachi ASC (authorized service center) to remove the stuck collet and mail me a replacement collet. Router works fine now.

                    Looking hang dog:

You've got to be able to droop your ears. You also hold your hat and fidgit with it as you talk. Keep your eyes lowered respectively as you mumble your through your explanation. It's the look of a puppy, half way through house training, when you catch him watering the plastic plant in the corner of your living room.

I goota say they responded promptly, if not terribly helpfully.

They told me I'd have to use a screw extractor and by the way I got scolded for not using the proper screwdriver properly. And of course I'll want to contact my autorised service center for official replacement parts.
