Framing Nailer

Do the nails that fit for this gun have plastic sleeves or casings to hold the nails together? If so did you notice any problems with the plastic sticking out of the nailing surface? Kinda like the picture below. The surface has been painted so it's not the greatest example of what I'm trying to say but I hope you get the point. Thanks.

I found that what your contractor experienced there is most likely a result of the nails versus the nailer.
I had no problem with the hundreds of 3.5" nails I shot that I purchased but the nails that were included with the kit experienced some of the issues you were exhibiting, though not to that extreme. Once I ran through the included ones and went back to the box of purchased nails all was well again.
