Well I went and bought the JessEm. Its awsome. gonna put it in a workbench that was just gathering junk.
I like MDF and use it for quite a bit of stuff. Can't beat the price and I agree its flat. But there is no way its as stiff as phenolic. I built my entertainment center out of it. I didnt put a back on it because the TV sticks out the back. So the sides are free to move and move they do. The opening on each side of the tv is small enough to prevent it from breaking so im not worried about that. But even 3/4 MDF has a lot of flex to it.
My wife was kidna mad I spent that much but I spent $70 to fill up my gas tank yesterday. As long as this desk turns out nice it should pass.
YOU DONT HAVE TO TRAIN TO BE MISERABLE. YOU HAVE TO TRAIN TO ENDURE MISERY.
I dunno how good is Jessem, but Grizzly has:
1. http://www.grizzly.com/products/G0528 Cast-iron top router table with stand, sliding aluminum table and fence assembly. $400 total including shipping.
2. http://www.grizzly.com/products/H7507 Cast-iron router table extension, $233 shipped. Note that this is an extension wing for a Grizzly tablesaws - might take some canoodling to fit it to a BT3K.
These pictures are of my router table setup in the BT3100 accessory table. I did not find any pictures of my router table on my hard-drive, I must have erased them.
