    5/8" Dowel Centers

Anybody know where I can find any of these? I'm not having any luck finding them.

    Never seen them that big.

    But try this:
Drill a 1/4" hole using a drill press
Countersink a concentric 5/8" hole with the DP in the same location.
Put a 1/4" dowel center in the bottom.
Insert a 5/8 dowel and mark the center.
Drill the center of the dowel with a 1/4" brad point bit (using the DP again).
Cut off 3/8" pieces of the 5/8" dowel with the 1/4" concentric hole.

Put a 1/4" dowel center in one of the disks.
Now you've got a dowel center in a 1/4" hole centered in a 5/8" disk which is just like a
5/8" dowel center... sort of. Just an idea.

    Good luck.

I did some searching for 5/8" centers and didn't find any. But someone out there might have them. Loring's idea sounds like a good one too.

Tage Frid suggested another approach. Rather than drilling one hole and using a dowel center to mark the other side from it, he suggests using brads with heads nipped off sharp in one board to mark the other board. Now the brads are pulled out, and holes are drilled in each board at the marked spot.

Tired them already - they don't have them anymore.

I finally found someone who carries all sizes of dowel centers thanks to someone over at woodnet. Thought I'd post it in case it helps someone else.

Goto to www.mcmastercarr.com. You can get a tube of 6 5/8" dowel centers for $5.20. The part number is 3414A21 and input 5/8" for the size.

They have hole centers for up to 1".
