    Quotes & Links

Please be patient! After all I'm the guy who as a kid tried to get the Dutch news broadcast from the BBC on my crystal radio during the German occupation of Holland in the 2nd world war.
But how does one in a post go about linking to another thread or post.
And I know how to quote another post in a new post, but I've seen members quote only a part of a post, possibly a paragraph and then make a comment and do this more then once.
    Please explain in plain English.
    Thanks

    Tim

Is this the kind of reference you're refering to, Tim? I did this by clicking the "quote" button on your post.

BTW - if you can get that broadcast you can get this communication problem solved!

There's a few ways to refer to another post.
The first most often used is to simply hit the quote button at the end of the post you want to quote.

You'll see a message edit box with a bracket-quote=name-close bracket folowed by the original text and ending with bracket-/quote-close bracket.
Note the bracket and close bracket refer to the characters below the { and} on most keyboards - I can't type them now because these are special characters. The /quote signifies the end of the quoted section.

ANyway you can edit the text in the quote - usually I edit out the non-relavant text leaving just the part I'm commenting on and replace the deleted text with ellipses (...)

If you refer to a post in another thread (series of related posts) then you can open that post in another window, copy the URL from your browser window and paste it in the psot you are formulating. It will appear as a hyperlink - underlined blue test signifying you can click on it and open the URL in another window.

Thanks JR and Loring, I don't have time right now but will work on your suggestions later, Loring.
Just checking now to see if there was a response.
        Thanks

          Technology was simpler then, JR.
But let's see if I learned something today:

          That worked!
There you go, you're never too old to learn.

          Thanks Loring
