    Editing posts

So when exactly can you edit a post?

I know you can only edit your own posts.

Sometimes I see the edit icon and other times I don't. Is it discussion dependent?

Also, can you edit a post at anytime? Weeks after leaving it?

I have edited a couple of posts like two weeks later,I'm guessing the feature is for whenever.I did notice that the editing feature is not on until someone responds to the original post.

Things worth doing, are worth doing right the very first time!!

I noticed that, and thought it a strange behaviour.

I'm not sure that's the case - I have edited many a post I just posted but caught an error in whilst looking at it immediately thereafter. I'm sure no one had the time to look at it.

oh... I get it (maybe). If it's a new topic you can't edit the original post in that topic unless some one has replied to the original topic but you can edit a reply to an original topic immediately????

Yep!That's what I meant to say,or at least close,it may have to be ,at least viewed in order to edit.

well, I just tested the supposition that you cannot edit your original post until someone has replied (see accompanying topic with name "editing posts-testing theory")
and the supposition is wrong. I was able to immediately edit an original topic post that I just posted.

            Any other theories?

I was just able to edit a post from 1/10/2003! So, I'd bet that you may at least be able to edit any non-archived post.[)]
