    Shop made Air Cleaner; options?

    1. I was curious about the 1/16 HP and that much CFM for about $50 + SH for the AirKing model. http://store.yahoo.com/tylertool/airki95piutb.html
    2. The Ridgid AM2500 sells for $200. Its 1/2 HP and I could not find any CFM rating. http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/Air-Mover/index.htm
    3. The popular JET AFS1000B sells for about $250. Max CFM is about 1000. Don't know about the HP rating on this. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...=hi&vi=reviews. Of course it has the filters built in.

Q1. Why should I not the get the less expensive blower with much higher CFM, make a box and add filters to it?

Q2. While I am at it, the AirKing has bunch of wall mount fans with CFM rating of 2000 to 3000. Could I not use one of those? Since I am going to build a box and addfilters, why pay for the nice hoousing? http://www.airkinglimited.com/USPage...cMain.asp?id=1

Q3. Why even build a box with filters to trap the fine dust. Why not blow the whole air outside through the wall to my sideyard? No filters, no box, no nothing.

By the way, does those CFM rating at Airking site seems true?

IMO, nothing wrong with #1 - I have a blower from my old furnace that I'm planning to build an air cleaner with (someday when I have time).

#3 - If you just blow it out, the outside breeze might also blow it back in... Even if it doesn't, your neighbor might not appreciate it!

FWIW, I've seen a Stanley blower at Lowes for (I think) $40... I don't know any details about it though.

I built one using a squirrel cage blower from a furnace. I usually change the filters a couple of times a year and it works just fine. I built it from plywood scraps and it hangs from the ceiling in the center of the shop. The actual cost to me to build it was next to nothing and I was able to build it in less than a day in the shop.
